Department of Chemistry formerly called Department of Applied Chemistry was one of the founding Departments at the inception of Faculty of Natural Science in the spring 2003 offering a three-year program leading to a B.Sc degree in Applied Chemistry. In the year 2009, the Department launched a post-graduate M.Sc program in six areas of specialization (Analytical, Inorganic, Organic, Physical, Environmental and Applied chemistry). This was a turning point in the history of the Department and a significant step forward towards fulfilling the country’s needs for high-level qualified chemists. Currently, 6 PhD programs including Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Materials/Nanochemistry, and Environmental Chemistry were approved by the University senate and three new MSc programs such as Materials/Nanochemistry, Food Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry will be launched.

Our mission is to contribute to the sustainable socioeconomic development of the country by producing vibrant, compassionate and responsible citizens through societal needs tailored curricula; conducting problem solving research; and strengthening community engagement and technology transfer.
